in case you have read this blog and come to believe that i live a boring, uneventful life...i submit this little anecdote from my eventful weekend.
some of the women in my dad's family are sleep talkers...they sleep with their eyes part-way open and can carry on full, coherent conversations in their sleep for hours and not remember a word of it upon waking. my sister becky is the best example of this. [a couple of my other sisters sometimes talk in their sleep but no one has the gift like becky does]. sleeping becky is regular becky's alter ego. she's my sister personality unadulterated by social niceties & morals. sleeping becky lies like crazy and makes things up. sleeping becky swears when waking becky wouldn't dream of it. sleeping becky remembers past events & information that waking becky doesn't. sleeping becky is the most hilarious person i know...and waking becky can be rather funny.
in my sister's apartment, in her bedroom, there is a small door in the closet that probably exists to provide emergency access to pipe or some other mundane thing but my sister was really curious about this little crawl space when she moved in. it's sealed so she can't get in it and sleeping becky latched onto the idea of this little door & has created a group of mischievous faeries who live behind it. the leader of these faeries is nedra [sometimes sleeping becky calls her ned]. ned is not usually very nice and she broke sleeping becky's glasses with her magic wand [waking becky does not have glasses]. my sister does and says all manner of crazy, hilarious things in her sleep & kinda always has but nedra and the faeries are my favorite new development. the best thing is that when she is awake, she has no memory of these stories or ideas but whens she's sleeping her memory of her sleeping stories is perfect. Her sleeping memory of real life events is also improved.
so, cool.
so, weird.
aren't you jealous of how fun my life is?

age appropriate?

this is an observation i've made recently. sometimes old men wear earrings. it's usually in conjunction with a receding hairline, a ponytail, and leather chaps...but other times it's regular old men who just happen to have a large, diamond-studded, gold cross in one or both ears. they may or may not be wearing suits & ties. do they know that earrings once you can receive social security is not quite age appropriate? maybe some sort of public service announcement could go out. if you know an older fellow who is guilty of this faux pas could you stage an intervention?
the life you save might be your own.
the blog has been lacking in witty observations as of late- i've been sitting on some good material and i'll try and do better & share these thoughts of mine with you.

ring master
welcome to monday.
today at work will be a 3 ring circus...try not to get your head stuck in the lion's mouth.
things that have gone terribly wrong today...in no particular order.
- athens city not being sure if the west green should be on a boil order. yeah. how can you be unsure of that? all of campus was eventually affected [let's err on the side of caution people!]
- broken elevators
- whole buildings with broken air conditioning systems
- Angry! Angry! mama's about the burnt out light bulbs & plugged toilets in their babies dorm rooms.
- ceilings falling
- steam leaks!
- water flooding 3 whole floors of the science lab building
- general plumbing chaos because of the water line break
- hot water leaks that required shut offs
- scads and scads of paperwork
- shady guys who steal stuff from campus recycling & reporting it to the oupd & watching the oupd sweep a puplic phone for prints. omg.
and other stuff i can't think of right now.

stolen!
i was buying some flowers today in zanesvegas and my credit card came up declined. this is not how i roll. i don't max out my cards and do crazy shit...so i asked the cashier to run it through again and it was declined a second time. soo..i went directly back to my dad's house to check my account online..no dice. it wouldn't let me log on. so i called and found out the credit card company had placed a hold on my account because of suspicious activity. the representative began reading some of the charges posted to my account & they weren't from me. somehow, someone totally jacked my credit card number and charged god knows how much to it. amazingly, thankfully, the 'off brand' credit card i have is totally cool and i think their going to waive all the bogus charges...they were great to work with, so other than some minor embarrassment at the flower shop, i don't have much to complain about..i'm just going to have to monitor my credit reports for a while to make sure i'm not a victim of identity theft & not just a stolen credit card victim.
